to testify to the gospel of the grace of God."

Ministry in Egypt
Between 1990 and 1993, I was a full time evangelist, apologist, and counselor. I lectured on Christian apologetics and spoke at more than 700 meetings every six months at churches throughout Egypt. I held seminars, lectures and questions and answer sessions with ministers, church families, youth groups, graduate and undergraduate students. As a counselor for the office of the Coptic Orthodox Church, I counseled Christians who had converted to Islam or those who had doubts about their Christian faith to help them realize that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (Jn 14:6). I also distributed Christian literature and testimonies of former Muslims to encourage Christians to stand firm for their Christian faith.
My Arrest in Egypt
On July 31, 1993, the Egyptian Secret Police arrested me because of my widely known evangelistic activities, preaching, counseling Christian converts to Islam and for defending the rights of persecuted Christians in Egypt.
Confiscation of My Library
After my arrest, the Secret Police confiscated my personal library and my ability to continue research was abruptly ended. My library, estimated to be worth 10,000 US dollars, contained a massive collection of valuable research books and rare references on religions, philosophy, encyclopedias, and publications I had written on Christian apologetics including my Ph.D. dissertation on "Church History in Arabia Prior to Islam".
Before the Supreme Court
On August 1, 1993, I was taken before the Supreme Court and charged with being a threat to Islam. I was allowed to speak in my defense and said, "This charge is illogical! How can I be a threat to Islam if Islam is from Allah? I believe that no one, not even Satan, can be a threat to my Christian faith and to my God." The judge was amazed and convinced and responded, "The Secret Police were right to say that you are convincing." After long discussions with me regarding my Christian faith and my Christian apologetics to Islam, the judge found me not guilty and ordered my release."
Sentenced to Life in Prison
Although all charges against me were dropped and the court ordered my release on August 1, 1993, the Secret Police returned me to detention the same day where I remained for two weeks. I was tortured physically and mentally. They made fun of my Christian faith to offend me.
On August 13, 1993, I was transferred to Tora prison in southern Cairo for life sentence where I was subjected to severe torture and inhumane treatment.
In spite of my terrible situation in prison, I remained joyful; singing and praising the sweetest Name of Jesus Christ with all my heart. I used my chains as musical instruments and continued to sing though my teeth were broken and my jaw was lacerated from being beaten.
Prison Messages
During my imprisonment, I used cigarette packages discarded by other prisoners to write a series of messages I called, "An Ambassador in Chains." My first message was "Eternal Life Outweighs Suffering for Jesus", based on (2 Corinthians 4:17), "Momentary Light Affliction is producing for us an Eternal Weight of Glory."
God Delivers me
Although the court had ordered my release, the Secret Police protested the ruling and I remained in prison. Miraculously, God touched the hearts of many generous and courageous Christians in ministries including News Network International, Open Doors with Brother Andrew, and Jubilee Campaign to help me. They exposed my plight to the Christian world at large, and to diplomats and politicians who were inclined to help me. After this, various American Christian media organizations reported about my arrest and torture and American radio stations and various world agencies reported about my situation. United States senators reviewed my situation during a session of Congress and a British member of parliament, David Alton, traveled to Egypt to defend me. Following are some of the reports that led to my release and immigration to the United States.
International Reports
NEWS NETWORK INTERNATIONAL in Santa Anna, California, "Kamil Solomon is a layman researcher in apologetics and an active member of the Coptic Orthodox Church. Many Copts have decided to remain Christians after talking with him. His ability to convince would-be Coptic converts to Islam to remain Christians particularly aroused the ire of government authorities."
OPEN DOORS WITH BROTHER ANDREW in the USA and Holland, "Kamil Solomon is a dedicated Christian apologist, lecturer, and teacher. He speaks to churches throughout Egypt, both Coptic and Evangelical, about issues dealing with the Christian faith and the Islamic faith."
JUBILEE CAMPAIGN in Fairfax, Virginia, "Kamil Solomon is an Egyptian Coptic Christian, a renowned expert and an academic scholar on Islam and Christianity, and he has lectured in numerous churches in Egypt on this subject."
Release from the Prison
On January 24, 1994, bowing to world opinion and diplomatic pressure, the Egyptian government suddenly decided to release me.
On January 26, 1994, I was released without any apology or explanation though I had been tortured severely for six months because of my love for Jesus Christ and for evangelizing.
I was forced to sign a notarized statement saying, "I would not evangelize in Egypt or speak to Christians who had converted to Islam.
House Arrest
After my release, I was placed under house arrest for two years from January 1994 until February 1996. I was then exiled from Egypt and granted an immigrant visa [special status] by the US Embassy in Cairo.
My Mother's Advice
After the Secret Police forced me to leave Egypt, my mother encouraged me saying,
"Kamil, keep loving and praising Jesus, the sweetest Name I know."
"Kamil, the more you love and help people, the more you become like Jesus."
Arrival in the USA
On February 25, 1996, I arrived in the United States and soon churches invited me to share my testimony and teach the truth about Islam. I was also interviewed by Christian radio and television. On July 31, 1996, I started my nonprofit organization, KAMIL INTERNATIONAL MINISTRIES ORGANIZATION.
